News and Items of Interest

The legislation establishing the Medical Orders for Scope of Treatment program in Colorado is NOW IN EFFECT. A master form for photocopying and instruction booklet are available from the Colorado Advance Directives Consortium Web site: www.ColoradoAdvanceDirectives.com. Ongoing training events are listed on this site on the Programs and Classes page as well as on the CADC site.

IMPORTANT: Numerous agencies, organizations, facilities, and stakeholders must get up to speed on the MOST program in order for it to work smoothly and effectively. Until the CADC's training initiative is complete, some healthcare providers and facilities may not recognize or know how to implement the form. If you plan to use it, please be sure you are fully trained in its use and willing to take responsibility to help train your provider partners. The Colorado CPR Directive regulations have been revised and approved by the Board of Health at its March meeting. The revisions bring the regulations more closely into alignment with the intent of the statute by clarifying that a person may make a CPR directive (refusing cardiopulmonary resuscitation) in any manner -- the so-called "blue form" is not required. Furthermore, the "blue form" is the only CPR directive that requires a physician's signature and copies, faxes, or scans of the blue form are acceptable. Visit the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment Web site: www.cdphe.state.co.us; search for "CPR" and select items related to revised regulations. Passed by Board of Health, March 17, effective date April 30.
